On Saturday 15 June we had the very short journey to Whickham Golf Club for the second Northern Counties League fixture against Durham.
There were 3 changes from the Team which faced Cumbria in May, with Morgan Blythe, James Cram and Craig Penny all returning to the fold.
On a day where the weather forecast looked bleak, we stayed dry until the final match was coming down the last hole, when the heavens well and truly opened.
The morning Foursomes saw a quick start from Northumberland, however mid way during the morning session it was fairly even. Things turned on the 18th with a great chip in from Mark Wharton which saw he and Cameron Thoburn snatch a 1 up victory, The bottom match ended with a 1 up victory for James Conn and Andrew Griffiths, giving us a 5-1 lead going into the afternoon singles.
Fast afternoon starts from Harrison Sewell, Andrew Minnikin and Phil Ridden put us on course for the magical 9.5 points. Durham battled hard, with a very close singles session just going the way of Northumberland, which secured a 11.5 to 6.5 victory.
A big thanks to Whickham who presented their course immaculately and also to Durham for looking after us so well on the day.
We next host Cheshire on 13 July 2024 at Newcastle United GC, we look forward to seeing you there.
