The Seniors County Championship concluded at Ponteland Golf Club today, on what was a mixed weather day, with some heavy showers and gusty winds.

Firstly we must thank Candi and her Teams in the Clubhouse and on the course for their support this week. The course was in excellent order, with widespread praise from the Players. We were also looked after very well in the Clubhouse, nothing was too much trouble – we really appreciate it.

16 players made it through to today, where 7 shots covered the field, with Sandy Twynholm at the top of the leaderboard, after a 1 under par 71.

Ultimately it came down to Sandy and Steve Anderton, to fight it out for the title, with Steve edging it by a single stroke, winning his first Senior Championship in the process.

In the R W Johnson Decanter (Best Gross for over 65’s), it was also a single shot victory for Paul Kester, who came out on top from John Porteous.

The final winner David Peel, with a fine nett 71 on day 1 being good enough to win the Tim Bull Cup (awarded to the best nett score in round 1)

Well done to all of the winners and good look to Steve who will go on to represent Northumberland in the County Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa in September.

The top 8 players will now enter the matchplay stages where they will compete for the Mike Fleming Salver.
