The Northern Counties Senior League got underway today, where we travelled to Stand Golf Club to face Lancashire.
There were some familiar faces in the line up, with Captain Steve Anderton awarding a debut to Ponteland’s Nick Jones, and bringing Graham Forrest back into the Team after a 7 year hiatus.
A damp morning greeted the players as they prepared for the 9 hole Greensomes. We finished well, taking a 3.5 to 2.5 lead into lunch.
The afternoon four ball matches were evenly poised, with Paul Taylor and Gary Parsons claiming a valuable half after trailing towards the end of their match.
We eventually ran out 10.5 to 7.5 winners, a fantastic result to start the season, which bodes well for the year.
A big thank you to Stand Golf Club – the course was in fine condition.
Also thanks to NUGC President John Bell for travelling to support the Team.
We go again at Scarborough North Cliff on 15 June.
