The traditional opening event of the season, the Inter County Foursomes, took place on the links of Dunstanburgh and Warkworth Golf Clubs, over the weekend of 5 and 6 April.

A massive thanks to both Clubs who presented their courses in superb condition. All players were looked after very well in the Clubhouses, it’s hugely appreciated.

The event saw 30 Clubs participate, on what were bright but cool conditions at Dunstanburgh. 8 clubs made it through to day 2, with Bedlington impressing with 6&5 and 7&5 victories in the morning and afternoon respectively. Hexham, fielding the youngest 2 players in the field made it through with a victory on the 23rd hole against the host Club.

On to Sunday at Warkworth, where we had glorious day for golf at Warkworth.

The quarter finals were won by Bedlington, Newcastle United, Goswick and Longhirst Hall.

Both semi finals saw youth against experience, with Bedlington youngsters Ben Brown and Jack Baird edging out County veterans Simon Lee and Mark Wharton on the 19th hole.

In another tight encounter,the Goswick pair of Dan Bullen and Alan Potts secured a narrow victory on the 18th against Senior duo Neil Graham and John Metcalfe.

The Northumberland final will be at Whitburn Golf Club on Saturday 26 April, with the winners playing in the Inter County Foursomes final that afternoon.
