A sunny but cool day at Baberton Golf Club, in Edinburgh, where our annual fixture against the Lothians Golf Association took place today.
New Captain Andrew Minnikin gave full debuts to the Bedlingtonshire duo of Ben Brown and Jack Baird.
In what is always a tough fixture, we trailed 3.5 to 2.5 after the morning Foursomes, with the experienced pair of Simon Lee and Craig Penny winning on the 17th and Dan Bullen and Cameron Thoburn winning their match on 16. It was a tough one to take for Zak Laws and Karl Mossom who lost the last 2 holes to halve their match.
With it all to play for in the afternoon, we were looking for a fast start, which unfortunately did not materialise after losses in 4 of the first 5 Singles matches, which ultimately left the remaining players with too much to do. There were some positives in defeat with debutant Ben Brown winning his match on the 17th, there were also wins for Andrew Griffiths, Simon Lee and Cameron Thoburn, with James Conn coming back to gain a half.
A huge thanks to all at the Lothians for another match played in the right spirit. Thanks also go to Baberton Golf Club, their course was in excellent condition and the hospitality was superb, we really appreciate it.
We move on to the Northern Counties League at Tynemouth on 10 May, where we entertain our neighbours Durham, we look forward to seeing you there to support the Team.
