The Northumberland County Seniors team hosted Cumbria at Bellingham GC yesterday for our final Northern Counties Seniors League fixture for 2024.


Bellingham GC were excellent hosts once again. The course was very well presented and their traditional hospitality and catering on the day was first class. Alec as usual ran the whole show with nothing he would not do to help everyone.

The weather started reasonably well but finished in rather damp conditions for all players.

Northumberland led 4.5 to 1.5 points in the morning 9-hole Greensomes. Just the start we were looking for.

In the afternoon 4-Balls Northumberland were the victors with a score of 7 to 5 points giving an overall match result of Northumberland 11.5 to 6.5 points. So that was 4 wins and only 1 defeat for the season. The only defeat this season being Lancashire away.

Kevin Harmison was presented with his County colours for reaching the requisite 7.5 league points. Congratulations Kevin. Many more games to follow.

The final Season’s Match Points were equal on 8 for Lancashire and Northumberland. However with 51.5 Game points to 50.5 Lancashire prevailed as the 2024 NC Senior League winners. Northumberland finishing in a very close runner’s up in second position. Losing by only 1 match point over the season is a very fine margin indeed. Full League details will appear in due course on the Northern Counties website.

So what a remarkable and productive Season for our County Seniors team. We played a total of only 16 players across the 5 league fixtures. The small core of players were committed to the cause and which created an amazing team spirit contributing significantly to the team’s success. A great foundation for next season. Hopefully for next season we will be able to add further quality and equally committed players to strengthen in depth our squad.

So that concludes the NC League Fixtures for 2024.

Our next and final event for the season is the Big 6 Seniors Qualifying at City of Newcastle GC on Tuesday 10th September 2024. Team selection and match arrangements will follow shortly. The Seniors Committee will get together to choose the 6 Players and 1 back up Reserve for the day. A Team Manager will also be appointed.
