The semifinals and final of the Northumberland County Seniors match play championship were held today at Morpeth golf club. The course was in outstanding condition with true and fast running greens. Everyone in attendance concurred with that comment. Sincere congratulations and thanks to Morpeth GC for hosting the event. The weather was also very kind and warm all day.
In the morning semifinals Steve Anderton beat Conor Browne 8&7 and Ken Cairns beat Ian Richardson 4&3.
The afternoon final was kindly refereed by the Northumberland County president Paul Brennan. Many thanks to Paul who has been a valued and welcome attendee at all the major senior events this year. Very much appreciated.
The final between Steve and Ken was played in great spirits throughout the afternoon. Steve took an early lead but was pegged back around the turn by Ken. The final result ending with a win for Steve by 3&2. Thus Steve defended and retained the trophy that he won last year. Back to back Match Play Seniors Championships. Steve thus retains the Mike Fleming Salver for a further year. Congratulations Steve a very worthwhile winner.
