Cheshire v Northumberland Seniors

Northumberland Seniors travelled to Astbury GC in Cheshire for the first of 3 consecutive away matches on the road.

Considering Astbury GC had been closed 2 days previously due to flooding of the fairways and greens the course was in excellent condition. There were wet patches in places but the greens played well.

Northumberland and Cheshire shared the points 3-3 in the morning Greensomes. A good start to the day.

In the afternoon Fourballs Northumberland prevailed the winners by 8-4 with the final score a very creditable win of 11-7 win by Northumberland. The results sheet is attached for reference.

Two of our pairings were dormie 3 down but managed to prevail All Square in both matches.

Paul Taylor and Gary Parsons won the 16th with a par by Gary and then Paul proceeded to birdie 17th (courtesy of a chip in) and 18th with a putt from 20 feet to square the match.

Alan Trimby and Ken Lansbury won 16th with a birdie, a par at 17th and a birdie at 18th with Ken sinking putts on the last 3 greens from 30ft/8ft/40ft. Not bad for his 1st away match.

On the day Kevin Cademy-Taylor was presented with his County Seniors colours for achieving the required 7.5 points for the County. Congratulations to Kevin.

The match at Cheshire included an approximately 400 mile round trip with many players not getting back home until around midnight. Hopefully the magnificent result made the long trip worthwhile.

The next 2 Senior fixtures for Northumberland are away to Lancashire and Yorkshire. A very tough run of away fixtures.

Kind Regards

Mike Fleming – Senior Secretary
