The second of the Northern Counties Seniors league matches was played at Hexham golf club on Monday 16th of June 2025 versus Lancashire.

The course was extremely well presented by Hexham Golf Club. All players commenting on the magnificent presentation of the course. We also like to thank the Catering and bar staff for their support throughout the day which was greatly appreciated by both counties.

Paul Brennan, the Northumberland County President was there to provide support on the day. Thank you Paul.

In the morning, Greensomes Northumberland held a one point lead with a score of 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 points. However in the afternoon 4 ball matches Lancashire came back strongly winning the afternoon matches by 7 points to 5. With the overall match result being a narrow win for Lancashire by 9 1/2 points to 8 1/2 points. The full results are attached.

During the afternoon presentation, Northumberland made reference to the very sad passing of Trevor Foster on 28 December 2024. Trevor had been a stalwart golfer for Lancashire over many years ; winning many County and National events culminating in the British Seniors Amateur championship in 2018. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Congratulations were given to Dale Woods who recently won the Lancashire Seniors stroke play championship at Ormskirk golf club. Similarly congratulations were given to Sandy Twynholm who won the Northumberland seniors stroke play championship at Morpeth golf club.

Also on the day, Ken Cairns was presented with his county Senior colours on reaching the required 7 1/2 points in matches for the county. Well done Ken.

The next fixture for Northumberland Seniors is at home to Yorkshire on Monday, the 14th of July at the Northumberland golf club.
