It was definitely a case of close, but no cigar in our match against Yorkshire Union, at The Bradford Golf Club.
A spirited morning effort saw the match tied at lunchtime, with Junior County graduates Junior Dobson and Andrew Griffiths, winning the last 4 holes to snatch a deserved 1 up victory. There were also wins for Captain Andrew Minnikin & Rob Henderson and Dan Bullen & Phil Ridden.
In warm and windy conditions the course was firm and bouncy, putting a premium on hitting the fairways.
It was looking tight for a while, and despite the efforts of the lads we went down 10-8. There were some huge performances, notably from Rob Henderson, who secured a convincing win, earning him his county colours in the process. Then there was Junior Dobson who secured his first win in Men’s County colours with an emphatic victory. Andrew Griffiths produced a stunning five 3’s in the last 6 holes to win on the last. There were also wins for Andrew Minnikin and the returning Simon Lee.
