Finally the weather was on our side as we travelled to Alnmouth Village for the Inter County foursomes finals. We were greeted with a day of bright sunshine on an immaculately presented course.
This Sunday, 21 April, we play our annual match against our friends from north of the Border, the Lothians Golf Association This is a 12 per side fixture, with morning foursomes and afternoon singles. First tee is 10:18. Goswick Links are kindly allowing us to use their course for this important fixture, prior to the start of the Northern Counties League
The sun shone for long enough to allow us to complete the Second and Third rounds of the Inter County Foursomes. In the final four second round games, played at Newbiggin, there were wins for The Northumberland, Newbiggin, Newcastle United and Backworth.
The first day of the Inter County Foursomes, scheduled to be played at Bamburgh on Saturday 6 April, was unfortunately cancelled, luckily Warkworth Golf Club were able to provide additional times to those already booked, meaning we could get the entire first round played. The season got underway with a 7-3 victory over Cumbria, in a friendly, Development Squad match, at Appleby Golf Club on Saturday 30 March.
On Saturday 30 March 2024, Cumbria host a ten per side friendly against Northumberland. This is the second year we have had this friendly fixture, which is for the Development Squads of both Counties. Appleby Golf Club are kindly hosting the event, with the first tee time being 12 noon. The format will be 18 holes singles matchplay. County Captain
Derek Rosenvinge, President of the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs in 1981/82 turned 100 years old today. Derek, who has been a Member of Whitley Bay Golf Club for 83 years, is pictured receiving a gift on behalf of the NUGC, presented by Mike Fleming, who has known Derek for over 45 years.
