We entertaimed Cheshire, where we ran out 11-7 winners in our first Northern Counties match of the season at a superbly presented Alnmouth Golf Club (Foxton Hall).
Firstly a huge thank you to the Club for hosting us today – specifically to Daniel and the Office Team, Jim and the Greens Teams and Lee and the Food and Beverage Team.
The course was in outstanding condition, with widespread praise from players on both Teams. The food was excellent, as was the way we were looked after, we really appreciate it.
After taking a 4.5 to 1.5 lead into lunch, the afternoon singles were considerably closer. Leading the Team out, Mark Wharton made excellent up and downs on 17 & 18 to secure a 1 up victory.
Cheshire came back strongly, winning 4.5 points from the first 7 available. The tail wagged for Northumberland, with Captain Andrew Minnikin picking up his 50th singles victory for the County. Andrew Griffiths and Rob Henderson had fine wins, along with Cam Thoburn, who had a convincing 6&5 victory.
A final mention to Dan Bullen who came back with a strong finish to secure a 2&1 victory, winning his county colours in the process, well done Dan.
